Hey all. Since SXSW updates aren’t up here yet, I figured I’d give you something to look at in the meantime.
1. Neon Trees – Habits
The debut album from band Neon Trees, Habits, is finally here. Neon Trees is a band from Utah signed to Mercury Records who plays a style of dancy pop-rock that is incredibly listenable. They’ve received excellent buzz from magazines such as Spin, they’re playing SXSW, and they’re scheduled to tour with Mute Math. Take a look at their single, Animal:
2. The Whigs – In the Dark
The Whigs’ third album, In the Dark, came out today. The album was produced by Ben Allen, who is noted for working on the Animal Collective album Merriweather Post Pavilion. The album is said to possess many of the good elements of the 90’s grunge movement, and does heavy guitars in a polished, effective way. They’ve performed on Dave Letterman, and will be performing in Madison for a WUD Music show on Saturday, April 24th. Check this live video of them performing the title track “In the Dark,” with one of the best intros ever:
3. The Disco Biscuits – Planet Anthem
The Disco Biscuits released their album Planet Anthem today, the culmination of three years of work. While the album still bears the signature Bisco sound, it also broadens the group’s palette with hip-hop and indie rock influences and has intense hooks. An especially good song that rocks hard and will get you jumping is “You and I:”
Other notable album releases: The Superions, Gin Wigmore
