A couple weekends ago, Milwaukee’s own Trapper Schoepp graced our presence at Der Rath by opening for Juniper Tar with a crowd-engaging and foot-stomping set. This Friday night at Der Rath, Schoepp is back for more; he’s even bringing his band, The Shades!
Schoepp and the Shades string together pop-rock melodies with Bob Dylan-esque Americana thrown in for some spice. Kiki Schueler of the The Punk Rock Skunk Blog described Schoepp as “what Bowie would sound like if he grew up in Pewaukee instead of the UK.”
The four-man band has just released a new album, Run Engine Run, with twelve new songs sure to instigate plenty of head-nodding and foot-tapping. The Isthmus described Schoepp as “a songwriting talent in the making.” With influences like Bruce Springsteen, Wilco, and The Clash, Schoepp and the Shades will be sure to bring that summer Terrace-feel music straight into Der Rath.
Opening for Trapper Schoepp and the Shades will be Ferdinand the Bull, a Madison band the core. With songs like “Barcelona,” the band strikes similarities with the likes of The Black Keys and Jack White, throwing in some raw guitar riffs and awesomely scratchy vocals. FTB’s enigmatic personality and rock n’ roll vibe will surely set the stage for Schoepp.
So f you’re looking for a Friday night to chillax, drink beer, and get back down to your roots, Trapper Schoepp and the Shades and Ferdinand the Bull will surely sooth your musical soul. PS: It’s FREE!!
