AV Club Local Wednesdays: Giant People, Land of Vandals

Land of Vandals

Tomorrow night on the Terrace is not a night to be missed. Two Madison bands, Giant People and Land of Vandals, will be here to rock your socks off.

A fresh band with a Pixies-inspired ragged edge, Giant People is on their way to becoming a household name in the Madison area. While Giant People was created while attending Madison West High School, the band has definitely made some great strides since they’ve released their eight-song EP entitled Giant EP. As the A.V. Club Madison said of the EP, “When the bass and drum find perfect lockstep behind the shambling guitars on the near-perfect ‘Hannah, Hannah,’ it’s as pure of heart as any ’90s college radio rock you can find then or now.” You can download the Giant EP for the low, low price of free over at their bandcamp.

Describing themselves as minimalist indie rockers, Land of Vandals is gaining notoriety well outside Wisconsin. Fronted by Jentri Colello, this band is close to putting out their first full-length album, chock full of haunting guitar riffs and sleepy vocals. The album will have engineering assistance from Casey Foubert, who previously has worked with Pedro the Lion and Sufjan Stevens. Also making appearances on the record will be Rob Moose of Bon Iver and Will Canzoneri of Cass McCombs’ band. The Isthmus says, “Colello’s crew builds the dramatic arc of each of her moody folk-rock tunes with starting control…when she’s on, Jentri Colello takes over a room completely”

If you’re eager to experience the local Madison indie scene, come out to this week’s AV Club Local at 8 pm! Check out a video from Land of Vandals below.
