TRAP SHOW IN THE PLAY CIRCLE – DJ Sidereal w/ Soundkill3r and Zendro

Do you like hard-hitting, loud, bass-in-your-face trap and hip-hop? Then don’t miss out on this Saturday’s show in the Play Circle Theater! This weekend we have DJ Sidereal along with Soundkill3r and Zendro playing a FREE trap show that’s sure to get the whole building crackin’.

At just 18 years old, Minnesota native DJ Sidereal is taking the world of hip-hop by storm. Having survived brain surgery at the age of 11, Sidereal turned to his passion for music and has been relentlessly pursuing his dreams ever since. Opening for rappers Macklemore, B.o.B, Mike Stud, G-Eazy, Waka Flocka Flame and many more has earned him a reputation as one of hip-hop’s most exciting DJs to watch. Sidereal brings a wild energy to every single show; known for crowdsurfing, confetti cannons and spraying champagne on stage. Playing at every major venue in his home town of Minneapolis has given Sidereal the chance to prove himself as a top-notch performer, earning him a spot on the Paid Dues tour and at Rock The Bells in 2012 in San Bernadino, CA. This exposure has earned him sponsorships from both G-Pen and Young & Reckless, along with the release of his clothing line and a number of hit singles that have reached the top 20 on the indie hip-hop charts. Check out his new mini-film about his journey from Tragedy to Triumph:

Don’t forget to arrive at 8pm to catch Soundkill3r and Zendro! Both student artists here at UW, these DJs are bringing their A-game along with sets full of hard-hitting trap to get the crowd turnt up. Soundkill3r has been producing electronic music since his teenage years, earning him opening slots at Segredo for artists like Cedric Gervais as well as a headlining his own club shows. He’s known for expertly mixing various genres of EDM, crafting sets that get crowds off their feet and lost in the music. You don’t want to miss Soundkill3rs live show this weekend! Head over to his facebook page and hit that like button!

Zendro will be getting the night started with a set full of heavy trap beats that would make Gucci Mane quiver in fear. Also a student at UW, Zendro has been honing his production skills for a number of years. If you like heavy bass and trap, get to the show at 8pm to catch Zendro! Check out his page here:

Your Friday Night with YACHT, Asobi Seksu, and Asumaya

Tonight’s the night! Your Friday’s going to be filled with indie excellence. Seriously. The headlining tours of two powerhouses, Asobi Seksu and YACHT, will collide in Madison at The Sett tonight at 9 p.m., but the action gets started in mere hours and doesn’t end until the wee hours of the morning.

Around 5 pm Asobi Seksu will be in the studio on WSUM, 91.7 FM. So sit down with your bowl of ramen and click on this link when the time comes to get a preview of the blissful dream pop you can expect tonight when Asobi Seksu hits the stage. Or just start listening now since WSUM (celebrating it’s ten-year anniversary this year) has excellent programming all day.

At nine the party gets started with Madison’s own Asumaya. Asumaya is the highly-experimental solo project of CONTROL’s Luke Bassuener, who combines smooth vocal melodies with organically-shaped beats that makes you wonder how a man with only two arms and two legs can manage to recreate such a thing live. Get there early to find out the answer to that curiosity and listen to “Marketing is My Culture” to get an idea of what he sounds like.

A little before 10 p.m. Polyvinyl’s Asobi Seksu will take the stage, displaying why they’ve been at the forefront of the shoegaze and indie pop scene for nearly a decade. “Trails” (available for download below) off their latest, Hush, is a perfect example of the band’s style, attacking with sound from all sides, but above all displaying the beauty and power of Yuki Chikudate’s voice. Their skill is truly admirable and something you won’t want to miss in action.

Around 11 p.m., DFA artists YACHT will take control of your night and not give it back. No stranger to Madison (You may have caught them at 2009’s Foward Music Festival), they’ll be sure to get a sizable crowd moving. Their latest, Shangri-La, explored the dualisms of life – good vs. evil, utopia vs. dystopia, and more. It takes skill to create music that has meaning, and more to keep it danceable, but that’s the kind of band YACHT is. And the party doesn’t stop there – after YACHT has played their last song of the night, the DTF afterparty begins with members of the band spinning tracks. That’s right, you’re feet won’t stop moving until 2 a.m.

So clearly this isn’t one to miss. Get down to The Sett at 9 p.m. Check out some videos below from both Asobi Seksu and YACHT, and be sure to download Asobi Seksu’s “Trails.”

Tonight! DMF with Nick Nice

Remember last week’s DMF? If it’s a little hazy TRUST US, you had a good time and tonight’s DMF with Nick Nice is sure to be just as wild. Madison’s own favorite DJ helped establish the Midwest rave scene back in the 90s and while living in Paris for some years was hired as the resident DJ by then artistic director David Guetta. He’s performed with many talented artists including: Daft Punk, Kaskade, Deadmau5, Right Said Fred, L.A. Riots, Solid Gold, and Bonobo to name a few.

After coming back home he’s had numerous successful businesses including his own record store and top rated radio show. Always throwin down the best for Madison, he’s been voted best DJ in the city many years in a row by various media sources.

It’s Friday, midterms are just about to be over if they’re not already, do some shots, get crazy and come dance all night (well 2am)!

DMF with French Horn Rebellion

Hey guys…Listen up!!  This Friday, October 14, French Horn Rebellion is coming to DMF at Union South.

DMF has been a Friday night staple here at Madison for years.  A rockin’ dance party, DMF has seen the likes of Matt & Kim, Girl Talk, Brother Ali, and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. Formally known as Club 770, DMF was a critical part of the social scene down at Union South.  Now finally finished with the renovations, DMF is settling in to it’s new home located in The Sett.  Bring your friends to be a part of the tradition that has kept Badgers dancing for years!

Welcoming back this awesome rave in style, we have French Horn Rebellion.  Keeping it in the family, FHR is a Brooklyn-based duo of brothers haling from our very own Milwaukee. They recently returned to their home state in May to open for a sold-out Yelle show at The Majestic.  The Wisconsin boys have a style that’s a groovy through-back to the 70’s with their own modern electric twist.  In their own words FHR came to be when, “After realizing that he didn’t want to play FRENCH HORN for life, Robert REBELLED with his brother David to create awesome dance music.”  Come check out the guys that The New York Times is calling “The next big thing…”  They are guaranteed to get you up on your feet and dancing!

11:55pm THIS FRIDAY NIGHT.  Union South.  BE THERE.
